Petroleum Secretary met State Chief Secretaries, addressed concerns about LPG for autos, migrant workers

To review the fuel supply situation in the country, Union Petroleum Ministry Secretary Neeraj Mittal chaired a meeting with Additional Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries (Food and Civil Supplies) on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

According to the statement made by the government, at the meeting, the Minister of Petroleum, who expressed concerns about free LPG (5 kg FTL) trade to migrant workers, assured that there was no disruption in supplies affecting migrants and that it was stable.

He said states could consider targeted distribution of FTL cylinders.

“The Secretary has been informed that states may consider managing targeted distribution of 5 kg FTL LPG cylinders based on local requirements as well as OMCs,” the statement said.

Additionally, the Minister of Petroleum emphasized that efforts are continuing to meet the LPG demand for automobiles. The statement called for three-wheeled vehicles that can run on both LPG and gasoline to be “encouraged to use the latter”.

Apart from this, according to the information, the top bureaucrat asked States to keep strict vigil against hoarding, diversion and spread of misinformation that could trigger unnecessary panic.
