Philippines President To Visit India Next Week To Strengthen Defence, Maritime Ties | India News

Ferdinand R. Marcos JR, President of Philippines, will make a state visit to India between 4-8 August to deepen bilateral cooperation in a wide variety of sectors, including defense and maritime security. This will be his first visit to India since he took over the office.

In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that President Marcos would accompany the first Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and various cabin ministers, senior officials, dignity and business representatives. The President will visit Bengaluru before he completes his visit, as well as engagements in the new Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Marcos are planned to have bilateral meetings on August 5th. While the guest leader will meet President Droupadi Murmu, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is preparing to call him.

According to Mea, India and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in November 1949. Since then, the two countries have established a strong partnership in trade and investment, defense, maritime cooperation, agriculture, health, pharmaceutical and digital technologies. Both parties are in close cooperation with India’s comprehensive strategic partnership with ASEAN, especially at the regional level.

“India’s relations with the Philippines, ‘Land Eastern’ policy, vision Mahasagar and Indo-Pacific vision is an integral column. President Marcos ‘future state visit, India-Filipines’ diplomatic relations overlapping with the 75th anniversary.” He said.

Indian navy ships often visited the Philippines as a component of defense cooperation; India provided its ports for the care of ships.

On July 30, Indian sea ships, Ins Mysore, Ins Kiltan and Ins Shakti received a warm welcome from the Philippine Navy during his limit calls to the Southeast Asian country.

In his speech at the Shangi-La dialogue in Singapore last year, President Marcos Jr. said the Philippines will “try to improve cooperation with allies like India,” he said.

Mea, which is called an important moment for the visit, said that both countries have the opportunity to draw the course for future cooperation and to participate in regional and global issues, which are common areas of interest.
