Photos released by the National Transportation Safety Board show the wreckage of the plane crash that claimed the lives of NASCAR legend Greg Biffle and his family.

Officials confirmed that the plane left Statesville Regional Airport, about 45 miles north of Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday morning but was diverted back to Statesville and crashed during an attempt to land.

The seven-person flight was en route to the Bahamas via Sarasota, Florida, when it crashed. The plane took off at approximately 10:05 ET and began returning to the airport five minutes after takeoff, NTSB Investigator Dan Baker said.

Biffle and his wife, Cristina, had a 14-year-old daughter, Emma, and a 5-year-old son, Ryder. during fatal accident Dennis Dutton, Jack Dutton and Craig Wadsworth, as well as the families of the victims, confirmed this.
NTSB board member Michael Graham told reporters Friday that the three people in the Cessna C550 were licensed pilots, but authorities I cannot verify as on Friday, who was flying the plane.
Graham said of the investigation: “This is the beginning of a very long process, and we will not be making any conclusions while we are on the scene in North Carolina, nor will we be drawing any conclusions.”

“I met him twice. He was a wonderful young man and what a tragedy this is for his entire family. So I just want to send our condolences, our love. Let me tell you, North Carolina, we will never forget them. He and his family were incredible people.”
North Carolina political figuresGovernor Josh Stein, Rep. Pat Harrigan and Rep. Richard Hudson weighed in after learning that Biffle and his family were among the seven victims in the plane crash. Governor Stein called the loss “heartbreaking” and recalled Biffle’s selfless response after the state was devastated by Hurricane Helene.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon and other racers expressed their condolences on social media, and the organization released a statement paying tribute to Biffle.
“Greg was more than a champion driver. He was a beloved member of the NASCAR community, a fierce competitor and a friend to many,” NASCAR said in a statement. he said. “His passion for racing, integrity and commitment to fans and fellow competitors has made a lasting impact on the sport.

“On the track, Greg’s talent and tenacity have earned him championships in the NASCAR helping citizens in North Carolina during the disasters following Hurricane Helene. “His tireless work saved lives.”
