Scientists create human eggs from skin cells in fertility breakthrough

Women in their 60s and 70s can theoretically give birth to genetically associated children theoretically, pioneering a breakthrough technique that transforms DNA into human eggs that can produce embryo from skin cells.

Researchers at Oregon Health and Science University created early steps from DNA from skin cells and fertilized with sperm.

In infancy, experimental technique, one New workEgg -exhausted elderly women, as well as for couples of the same gender, who want children to be genetically associated with both partners.

Some experts predict that technology may be ready for clinical use in 10 to 15 years, although it is still at an early stages.

Hegon at Oregon University of Portland and his reproductive endocrinologist and obstetric and gynecology professor. Paulo Amato, Fox News Discovery to Digital and to work It was hopeful.

“It is a very preliminary work at this stage, but if it was to succeed, it would offer hope for couples suffering from infertility and especially elderly women who were free of eggs.” He said.

Amato, even if the method works, older pregnancy carrying important health risks, he said.

“We shouldn’t forget that someone should still have this pregnancy,” he said. “Therefore, we do not argue that women in their 60s and 70s are pregnant, but theoretically, they may have a genetically associated child. I guess that this is within at least 10 to 15 years.”

The experimental procedure starts with the nucleus of a skin cell containing DNA.

Scientists remove this seed and put their own core into a donor egg.

The egg is then triggered to remove half of the chromosomes and reduces them from 46 to 23.

This makes it compatible for fertilization with sperm adding the other 23 chromosome.

If it is successful, the resulting embryo is genetically normal and can be transferred to a uterus to start pregnancy.

Technical can also help women who have previously receiving cancer treatment or transforming family planning for couples of the same sex.

“Potentially, couples of the same sex would allow them to have a genetically associated child.” He said.

“Usually, they have to use eggs from a donor. With this technology, we can use a skin cell from a partner to form an egg, fertilize with sperm from the other, and produce a genetically associated baby with both.”

“This preliminary work and before being ready, there is a lot to understand.”

“All the embryos we created were actually genetically abnormal, too much or very little chromosomes. We have a lot of work to do.”
