Monsoon set to advance across North India: IMD

New Delhi: Conditions are favorable for the southwest monsoon to advance further into many northern states in the next five to six days, even as the national capital recorded its hottest morning in two years due to delayed seasonal rains, the IMD said on Sunday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement that conditions are favorable for the southwest monsoon to advance further over parts of the North Arabian Sea and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, among other states, during the next two to three days.

It is likely to continue its movement over Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and southeast Rajasthan during the next two to three days. However, it has also warned of possibly severe heatwave conditions in Uttar Pradesh on June 28 and 29. According to weather forecast agency Skymet, monsoon is expected to arrive in Delhi on July 4 if conditions remain favourable.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, which recorded its hottest morning in two years, the minimum temperature reached 31.1 degrees Celsius, 3.2 notches above the seasonal average, while the maximum temperature rose to 41.8 degrees Celsius.
