Plane makes emergency landing after pilots lose contact with flight attendants and hear knocking on cockpit door
An American Airlines plane operated by SkyWest Airlines made an emergency landing in Nebraska on Monday night after pilots were unable to reach flight attendants and heard someone outside the cockpit door, according to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Flight 6469 departed Omaha’s Eppley Airport for Los Angeles at 6:41 p.m. local time, but turned back almost immediately and landed just 18 minutes later, according to tracking site FlightAware.
“After landing, it was determined that there was a problem with the intercom system and the flight crew knocked on the cockpit door,” the FAA said in a statement.
The photo of the plane after landing shows the Embraer ERJ 175 regional jet parked away from the terminal and two fire trucks surrounding it.
Omaha airport official said only that there was no security incident at the airport and directed all questions to American Airlines.
