Jill Biden calls husband’s cancer diagnosis ‘shocking’: ‘Somehow that was missed’
Former First Lady Jill Biden opened up about her husband’s battle with prostate cancer in a new interview.
He said The preview clip was released on Friday. From an interview with CBS News’ Rita Braver, former President Biden’s cancer diagnosis was “shocking.”
The former president announced his diagnosis in May last year, and a spokesperson told The Hill later that fall that he was undergoing radiation therapy and hormone therapy.
When pressed by Braver about whether White House doctors should have made that diagnosis while her husband was in office, Jill Biden offered this quote: medical testing standards Discontinuing prostate specific antigen (PSA) testing for elderly patients.
“You know, the doctor said that according to the American Urological Association, men over 70 no longer need a PSA, no blood test, because it is a slow-growing cancer,” he said.
The former First Lady added: “I feel like there’s been incredible care in the White House, but somehow it’s slipped through the cracks.”
The full interview will air this weekend on “CBS News Sunday Morning.”
In another clip from the interview shared by the network on Wednesday, the former First Lady reflected on her husband’s infamous performance against President Trump in the 2024 CNN presidential debate.
Jill Biden said she was “scared” as she watched her husband try to finish his answers on stage.
“So, as I was watching him, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke,'” she told Braver. “And it scared the hell out of me.”
The former first lady’s conversation with CBS came ahead of the June 2 release of her memoir, “A View from the East Wing.” The book will give her perspective on her time in the White House and the impact of her husband’s presidency on the Biden family.
Jill Biden has been accused of pushing her husband to enter the 2024 presidential race despite calls from Democratic leaders for him to leave her after the CNN debate. The former president later dropped out of the race and endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in the general election.
