President Putin is on a two-day visit to India to attend the 23rd India-Russia Summit scheduled to be held today, December 5.

Rare acceptance of President Putin by Prime Minister Modi

Prime Minister Modi arrived at Delhi’s Palam Airport to welcome his long-time friend Russian President Putin. Shortly after Putin landed, the two shared a warm embrace. This was Putin’s first visit to India in four years and he last visited in December 2021. Violating standard protocol, Prime Minister Modi personally received President Putin at New Delhi’s Palam airport.

However, this is not the first time that Prime Minister Modi has personally received and hosted world leaders in India. In the last 11 years, he has received leaders like Prime Minister Modi, Barack Obama, Sheikh Hasina and many more.

For the first time in 2015, Prime Minister Modi broke standard protocol and received US President Barack Obama, who was invited as the chief guest of the Republic Day parade. He continued the tradition and personally welcomed US President Donald Trump in 2020.

In 2017, he welcomed former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport.
