PM Modi delivers 103-minute Independence Day speech, longest ever by any Prime Minister

On Friday, August 15, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a 103 -minute independence day speech from the Walls of the Red Castle, which was the longest by any Prime Minister in India.
Mr. Modi broke his 98 -minute record from the 78th Independence Day last year.
The longest independence day speech before 2024 was 96 minutes in 2016, and his shortest speech spoke 56 minutes in 2017.
On the 79th Independence Day of India, Mr. Modi, who gave only 17 Independence Day from Red Fort, stood by Jawaharlal Nehru and broke the Record of Indira Gandhi.
Mr. Modi lasted 65 minutes in 2014.

His speech in 2015 lasted 88 minutes. In 2018, Mr. Modi, one of the walls of Red Fort, was 83 minutes. Later, he spoke about 92 minutes in 2019.
In 2020, Mr. Modi’s I-DDA address took 90 minutes.
His independence day speech in 2021 lasted 88 minutes and spoke for 74 minutes in 2022.
In 2023, Mr. Modi’s speech was 90 minutes.
Before Modi, Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947 and in 1997 IK Gujral made the longest speeches in 72 and 71 respectively, respectively.
Nehru and Indira Gandhi broke a record in 1954 and 1966, respectively in the 14th minute.
Former prime ministers Manmohan Singh and Atal Bihari VajPaye gave some of the shortest independence day speeches from the Red Castle.
Manmohan Singh’s speeches in 2012 and 2013 lasted only 32 and 35 minutes, respectively. Atal Bihari VajPayee’s speeches in 2002 and 2003 were shorter in 25 and 30 minutes.
