A triathlet is ready to face life without a limb after being cut while fighting sepsis.

Lily McGarry, a medical student at the University of Cardiff from Jersey, believed that “Freshers’ flu” had a kindness.

Lily joined triathlons as part of a very active lifestyle that includes swimming and regular running.

But as the night passed, Lily’s condition worsened.

“When my roommate got up at night, he still saw my light and came to see me.

“I was sick everywhere and I was inconsistent.”

His friends Lucy and Ella cleaned him and took him to A & E, and at this point he noticed a rash that began to spread to his body.

Lily was taken to the resuscitation area and still unaware of the seriousness of its situation, I added: “I was able to get into A & E, and at this point I just thought that I would take some antibiotics and go home the next day.

“But I remember in the Messenger of Allah that the consultant wanted my mother and my father’s mobile phone numbers.”

In addition to being in a room surrounded by doctors and nurses, he remembers very little until about three months later.

What is sepsis?

Sepsis occurs when the body reacts inappropriate to infection and causes the organs to work poorly.

“I’m lucky to lose my limbs in an age with too many technologies.” He said.

“I’ve always liked to swim and be in water, and I’m really excited about the feeling of freedom I will experience without gravity in water.

Lily will return to Jersey in November, and look forward to seeing her grandmother and grandfather, going to the beach and “healing and thinking what happened”.
