New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump for telephone conversation and greetings on his 75th birthday. In an article in X, he referred to Trump as a “friend ve and emphasized his common commitment to strengthening a comprehensive and global partnership of India-US. Modi also confirmed India’s support for Trump’s attempts to a peaceful solution of the Ukrainian conflict.
“On my 75th birthday, thank you for your phone call and hot greetings, my friend, President Trump. Like you, I am completely determined to take the Global Partnership of India-US to new summits. We support your initiatives for a peaceful resolution of Ukraine conflict.”

Birthday greetings coincided with US Trade Representative Brendan Lynch’s visit to the new Delhi. Rajesh Agrawal, the Special Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, held negotiations on the progression of bilateral trade negotiations.
Authorities have described the meetings as constructive and forward-looking, focused on concentrating efforts to reach an early conclusion of a mutually useful Indian-US trade agreement.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated that the India-USA bilateral trade agreement has reviewed the trade relations of the delegation led by Lynch as the chief negotiator of the Bilateral Trade Agreement and discussed on the proposed agreement.
A US Embassy spokesman confirmed that Lynch’s relationship with Indian officials was positive and productive. The sources said that the chief negotiator almost agreed to continue the trade discussions.
India and the United States have had five rounds of negotiations so far. A session planned in August was postponed. In recent months, talks have focused on providing a temporary trade agreement.
Tensions increased when Trump announced a 25 percent tariff in Indian goods in July. Weeks later, referring to India’s ongoing Russian oil imports, implemented 25 percent more tasks by bringing total tariffs to 50 percent of the valid as of August 27th.
India expressed concerns about the demands of opening the US agricultural and milk sectors and critical areas that maintain millions of livelihoods. The bilateral trade negotiations, which were initiated in March 2025, aim to conclude the first stage of a comprehensive agreement by October-November 2025.
Last week, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the potential to unlock the opportunities in the cooperation of India-US. In his X article, he described the new Delhi and Washington as “natural partners ve and expressed his confidence in the progress of negotiations.
He also stated that he was ready to talk directly to Trump.

Lynch’s visit focuses on the deepening of strategic and economic ties when the Prime Minister’s participation with the US president. Authorities from both countries reiterated the commitment to advance the debates on a balanced, fair and mutually beneficial trade framework that deals with the interests of both countries.
