PM rolls out welcome mat for Indonesian president

The Indonesian president has landed in Australia on his official visit since becoming leader.
Prabowo Subianto touched down in Sydney on Tuesday night ahead of official events, including a meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday.
The short trip will be the Indonesian leader’s first visit to Australia since he was sworn in; Mr Prabowo previously visited Canberra in August 2024 as defense minister and president-elect.
He has served as president of Indonesia since October 2024.
Mr Albanese said the bilateral meeting would strengthen ties between the two countries.
“Australia and Indonesia share deep trust and an unbreakable bond as neighbours, partners and friends,” the statement said.
“Together, we are committed to working towards a safe, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
“I look forward to building on our previous discussions on how we can enhance the strength and depth of our bilateral relations.”
Mr. Albanese visited Jakarta in May to meet Mr. Prabowo; this was the first official one-on-one meeting with a world leader after his election victory.
In his statement, the Prime Minister said that the two leaders will continue discussions on how both countries can deepen their partnership.
Details of the Indonesian president’s official schedule have not yet been made public.
