Colts’ Charvarius Ward misses Week 6 game with concussion

The Indianapolis Colts lost a key member of the minor league during warmups ahead of Sunday’s Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Colts cornerback Charvarius Ward unexpectedly collided with tight end Drew Ogletree while preparing for the game. He remained on the ground for several minutes before teammates and the team’s medical staff helped him evaluate him.

Ward was diagnosed with a concussion and was unable to play against the Cardinals.

The Pro Bowl cornerback is in his first season with the Colts. He recorded 13 tackles and three pass breakups in four games. He played three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and earned his first Pro Bowl honor in 2023 by leading the NFL with 23 breakups.

He played four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs before joining the 49ers, winning the Super Bowl in 2020.

The Colts’ defense ranks third in points allowed and 14th in yards allowed.

That wasn’t the only strange injury the Colts saw occur during warmups.

Quarterback Anthony Richardson was eliminated from the team’s game after suffering a serious eye injury when practice tape broke and he was hit. Riley Leonard was named the backup point guard to Daniel Jones.
