A high school football game ended in chaos after police used pepper spray to defuse a verbal and physical altercation.
St. The Cardinal Ritter College Preparatory High School football team from St. Louis traveled nearly 500 miles to Massillon, Ohio, and the trip turned into a nightmare.
Cardinal Ritter lost 28-14 to Massillon High School in what was said to be a tough, physical game all night.

Tensions escalated when multiple players had to leave during the post-match handshake, leading to the use of pepper spray.
Police said the officers involved “acted within our policies and procedures.”
“Our mission was to ensure the safety and security of everyone entering the stadium, including fans, students and athletes. Unfortunately, the conclusion of the match brought with it numerous physical fights on the field between both teams.” police said in a statement.
The statement later explained why pepper gas was used.
“Team personnel, coaches and Massillon police officers had to intervene and separate the players during the post-game ‘handshake’. Officers issued lawful orders on multiple occasions for Cardinal Ritter players to leave the field and proceed to the locker rooms.” The statement was included.

“Verbal commands were an attempt to deescalate the pushing and shoving incident that had occurred. These commands were ignored. Officers once again ordered the visiting team off the field. This was all occurring while the Massillon marching band and cheerleaders were on the field for the post-game ceremonial kick of the school.” the school he graduated from.
