Police detonate multiple ‘suspicious devices’ in Melbourne home

A police bomb squad is carrying out a controlled detonation of “suspicious devices” found at a Melbourne property and multiple explosions were reportedly heard this morning.

A Victoria Police spokesman said police were called to his Keilor East home on Saturday after “a number of items were discovered”.

“The Bomb Response Unit detonates these devices in a controlled manner at the scene,” they said.

Early this morning, Sunrise reported three small explosions coming from Belle Vista property.

“This is one of three small explosions we’ve heard in the last hour,” Hope Wilson of Sunrise said, reporting from the scene.

“The first one was just after 6 in the morning, the police shouting, and the sound that followed sounded like an explosion. It was a pretty big sound.”

“Another one just after 6.30am and then again about a minute or two before. So this is clearly a dynamic situation in Melbourne’s north-west,” he said.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Police said there was no perceived threat to the community there, but people were advised to avoid the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
