Detective Sergeant Adam Penn said police were taking the incident ‘seriously’ and detectives were trying to find those involved.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened or has any other information, no matter how small or inconsequential, that could assist us with our investigations to come forward and speak to us,” he said.

Masked and knife-wielding men fighting outside Sutton-in-Ashfield Asda on Friday night were reported to police.

‘Similarly, we would like to hear from anyone who may have recorded dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage which could assist us in our ongoing investigations.

‘We fully understand how worrying this will be within the community, but at this stage I would like to reassure people that we are currently treating this as an isolated incident.’
