Council bans repainting homes and putting up fences in ‘Bridget Jones’ village without approval
It is not difficult to see why Pitoresk Cotswold Snowshill is selected for a setting of Bridget Jones’s diary with honey colored stone huts, red phone boxes and Victorian church.
Although the village, near Tewkesbury, did not immediately feel the effect of the film in 2001 – community closed because of the outbreak of foot and mouth disease – certainly a popular stop in tour trips from London.
Now, in order to maintain the charm of the village with a national trust mansion, the Council chiefs have set strict planning rules to stop people’s homes to stop out -of -character changes.
Article 4 means that some of the studies that generally do not require planning permission should now receive official approval from the Tewkesbury District Council.
This includes a different color painting, solar panels, putting doors and fences, and patio in gardens.
The movement was burned by the district council members last week and came after a six -week consultation in the village where the average price of property sold last year was £ 504,000.
Sarah Hands, a member of the Assembly, who supervised the planning in the council, said, “Snowshill is one of the jewels of our district and will help protect the legacy of these forces and will still allow thoughtful and appropriate development.”
“We are grateful to anyone who participated in the consultation and helps to shape this decision.”
Snowshill is part of the Cotswold region of extraordinary natural beauty and most of its 50 houses are listed.
The center has a walled cemetery and an 1864 St Barnabas Church with a telephone box outside. The village also features Snowshill Manor, a country house in the 16th century, which once lived by architect Charles Paget.
But perhaps the biggest claim of fame is the scenes in the diary of Bridget Jones, starring Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant. The filming took place in a house as the home of Bridget’s parents, which he visited for Christmas.
