Police swarmed into Edinburgh’s busy city center and blocked off a street, while a man was taken to hospital with “serious injuries”. A 39-year-old man was arrested following the alleged stabbing in Wardlaw Street, adjacent to Gorgie Road, at around 2.40pm.
A 50-year-old man is thought to have “serious” injuries. EdinburghLive reports emergency services are in decline Locals who arrived at the scene earlier today reported seeing a man covered in blood as he was taken away by police. Footage taken at the scene shows police tapes erected along the street. An eyewitness reported seeing blood on the ground on social media, but this has not yet been confirmed.
An eyewitness said: “I was coming home from work and saw Wardlaw Street was blocked off.
“Lots of police and queues. I’m not sure what happened but it looks alarming. I hope everyone is okay.”
“About six police cars parked on the road and officers directing traffic.”
A statement from Police Scotland reads: “A 39-year-old man was arrested after a man was found injured in Edinburgh’s Wardlaw Street on Tuesday 24 March 2026.
“Officers were called to the property at around 2.40pm and a 50-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. Hospital staff described his condition as serious but not critical.
Detective Inspector Alan Sharp added: “’Our inquiries continue in the Wardlaw Street area.
“’We would urge any witnesses or anyone with information who may assist our investigation to contact us.
“Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 1900 of 24 March.
“Alternatively, Crimestoppers, where anonymity can be maintained, can be contacted on 0800 555 111.”
