Director TM Balakrishnan Nair plans to establish ‘coastal stations’ along the coastline to develop ocean observations and quickly respond to developing situations.
“We must remain in contact with the sea. While our basic research activities continue in the operational center in Haydarabad, we plan to establish satellite centers on both the eastern and western coasts,” he said.
This type of first coastal station – the institute operating under the auspices of the Ministry of World Sciences (MIES) is expected to be established on the Andaman Islands. Mr.nair, “We wanted a maximum of five acres from the local government. After the approval is made, we will build the station and distribute a research personnel team,” he said.
Incois is also preparing to set up a seaside cable observatory in the sea bed.
He said that advanced nations such as the United States have local processing centers and decentralized ocean observation systems. This approach, especially as climate change is increasingly affecting coastal communities, it provides better monitoring of socio-economic security deficits associated with ocean events.
Incois already operates several observation texts equipped with buoys and tidal indicators that transmit real -time data through satellite. However, Mr.nair emphasized that coastal stations will significantly improve the reaction times for events such as oil spills, where only satellite data may not be sufficient.
“We are also investigating the use of drones for faster evaluations along the beach.” Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh plans to establish similar coastal stations on the coastline.
“We are interested in establishing a station near the Krishna-Godavari basin on the East coast.
In the ‘Tsunami Ready Program’, he shared that eight villages in Kerala will soon join 26 villages ready to address tsunami threats. “We are also planning to include the coastal villages in Gujarat and Maharashtra, which is not currently handled despite the security vulnerability, In We.
