Police take no further action over Bob Vylan’s Glastonbury performance

Avon and Somerset Police said its investigation into chanting by rap duo Bob Vylan at the Glastonbury Festival in June would not lead to further action by prosecutors because there was “insufficient” evidence to suggest there was a “realistic prospect of conviction”.

In a statement, police said: “Having considered all the evidence we have concluded that this does not meet the criminal threshold set by the CPS for any person to be prosecuted.

“No further action will be taken on the grounds that there is insufficient evidence to establish a realistic possibility of conviction.”

Lead singer Bobby Vylan, whose real name is Pascal Robinson-Foster, chanted “death, death to the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces)” during his BBC live-streamed performance at the Worthy Farm festival in June.

The agency said it voluntarily interviewed a man in his mid-thirties about the case in November and was informed of the outcome early Tuesday.

Police added: “Comments made on Saturday 28 June have sparked widespread outrage, proving that words have real-world consequences. We believe it is right that this matter be thoroughly investigated, every possible criminal offense taken into account thoroughly and we take all the advice we can to ensure we make an informed decision.”

This is breaking news, more to come…
