Police use riot shields to help recapture runaway Wiltshire goat | UK news

An escaped goat that was attacked in a Wiltshire village was safely lassoed by police carrying riot shields.
An eyewitness told the BBC that the runaway ruminant mammal was wandering around Upper Seagry, near Chippenham, and was seen chasing a woman through the village and trying to eat the oranges from her Christmas wreath.
Wiltshire police used riot shields and a lasso to capture the animal before it was safely returned to its owner on Thursday morning.
The goat also tried to eat safety equipment from the back of the officer’s car.
“Looks like it’s not very nice,” one of the officers is heard saying in body-worn camera footage.
The officer added: “We tied him to a tow rope, he’s got some [riot] Shields because he’s trying to hit my head.
The animal swiped its lasso briefly before being recaptured and taken home.
A Wiltshire police spokesman said: “PC Ferris and PC Miller from Chippenham Response intervened quickly, brought the situation under control and returned the goat to its owner.”
In October, an attempt to rescue a goat trapped at the bottom of a bridge arch led to an urgent call to rescue someone trying to save the animal in Cumbria.
Three firefighters and police were dispatched to the Longtown Bridge in Carlisle after a report that someone had entered the water while trying to reach the animal.
Longtown fire station said they managed to free themselves but firefighters were dispatched to retrieve the animal to “prevent a repeat of the incident”.
