Political battle lines drawn ahead of long-delayed Bengaluru civic polls

Bengaluru will finally witness civic body elections after a gap of five years, as the Supreme Court on Monday directed the state government to hold the elections by June 30. Political parties had already started preparations in anticipation of the decision.

The Congress, which called for applications in December, is well ahead, while the BJP and JD(S) are still in the preparation phase.

‘Finally good news’

Abdul Wajid, former owner and plaintiff in the Supreme Court case, said: Hindu It was stated that local leaders were satisfied with the decision.

“We are preparing a manifesto and a list of our achievements, which will be published once the reservation process is completed and candidates are announced. Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and Padmanabhanagar MLA R. Ashok said Congress’ defeat in the GBA elections is guaranteed.

“The people of Bengaluru are waiting to teach a befitting lesson to the Congress that has tarnished Bengaluru by transforming our city from a global city into a garbage city, a potholed city and a city of vagabonds,” he said. “BJP is fully prepared for the GBA election and we are confident that the voters of Bengaluru will congratulate the BJP with overwhelming support,” he added.
