Political battle lines drawn ahead of long-delayed Bengaluru civic polls

Bengaluru will finally witness civic body elections after a gap of five years, as the Supreme Court on Monday directed the state government to hold the elections by June 30. Political parties had already started preparations in anticipation of the decision.
The Congress, which called for applications in December, is well ahead, while the BJP and JD(S) are still in the preparation phase.
‘Finally good news’
Abdul Wajid, former owner and plaintiff in the Supreme Court case, said: Hindu It was stated that local leaders were satisfied with the decision.
“After five years and four months, we finally have good news and it is a great feeling. Our pool of local leaders is very enthusiastic and well prepared for a series of meetings and planning sessions,” Mr Wajid said. BTM Layout Transport and MLA Minister Ramalinga Reddy said the Congress held its first official meeting in south Bengaluru on Monday to plan the way forward.
“We are preparing a manifesto and a list of our achievements, which will be published once the reservation process is completed and candidates are announced. Our response to the BJP will be the work we have done in the last few years and the development projects we have planned,” Mr. Reddy said. Hindu.

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and Padmanabhanagar MLA R. Ashok said Congress’ defeat in the GBA elections is guaranteed.
“The people of Bengaluru are waiting to teach a befitting lesson to the Congress that has tarnished Bengaluru by transforming our city from a global city into a garbage city, a potholed city and a city of vagabonds,” he said. “BJP is fully prepared for the GBA election and we are confident that the voters of Bengaluru will congratulate the BJP with overwhelming support,” he added.
