Political slugfest between Congress-BJP in Haryana over crop procurement

Opposition leader in Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda of the Congress Party, along with his party members, at the Pipli grain market in Kurukshetra on Friday.
A bitter political row broke out in Haryana on Friday, April 10, 2026, over the contentious issue of crop supply, with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress on edge over the treatment of farmers.
Former Prime Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda of Congress Party on Friday, April 10, 2026, alleged that the BJP government is harassing farmers by imposing arbitrary and unreasonable conditions to evade its fundamental duty of purchasing their produce.
Mr. Hooda, who visited Pipli grain market in Kurukhetra as part of his ongoing grain markets tour, said farmers, middlemen and workers were facing major difficulties due to lack of proper procurement and imposition of various new conditions. “Instead of supplying wheat and mustard crops, the government is imposing one strange condition after another on farmers,” he said.
