Poll-bound Assam sees 200 CAPF companies deployed ahead of April 9 elections

The Election Commission has appointed Retired IAS officer Manjeet Singh of the 1988 batch as Special Observer for the Assam Legislative Assembly General Election.

ECI stated that Singh will have to visit Assam from time to time to observe the poll preparations and conduct of General Elections to Assam Legislative Assemblies and give his inputs for necessary actions. Singh will visit Assam in coordination with the Assam CEO.
The Commission has also requested the Commission’s batch of IAS officers from 2010 to 2021 from the list of principal secretaries for posting as DEOs. The commission appointed Somali Shubhdarshini as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Majuli, R Sheetal Kumar as SSP of South Salmara, Anchal Chauhan as SSP Sadiya, Sudhakar Singh in Chirang and Mohan Lal Meena in Dhemaji.
The ECI has demanded immediate effect of the orders and a compliance report regarding the attendance of the above officers to be sent by 11 am on March 17.

With additions of about 1,64,000 and deletions of about 1 lakh during this period, around 64,000 voters have been added net,” he said.
Assam will go to polls on April 9. Goel said 200 CAPF companies are already there and deployed. “We will get more CAPF companies in the coming days.”
ECI has transferred and issued DEOs in five regions.
