Prince Andrew has announced that he is giving up his royal titles, including Duke of York. It is understood the decision was taken in close consultation with other members of the Royal Family, including King Charles and Prince William.

He will also relinquish his knighthood as a Grand Knight’s Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) and his role as Garter as a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. He will retain, but not use, the duchy, which can only be abolished by Act of Parliament.
