Lemon8, Yope social media apps skyrocket in popularity in Australia

Young people are pushing little-known social media platforms to the top of app store lists as they look for ways to get around Australia’s under-16 social media ban.

An obscure social media platform called Yope has suddenly become a top app on Australia’s Apple App Store, according to data from analytics platform Sensor Tower. The app was ranked 316th on this list last week.

Similarly, ByteDance’s Instagram rival Lemon8 is currently in second place after consistently ranking in the 20s to 40s over the past month.
