People with Kyasanur Forest Disease symptoms should consult doctors without delay, says Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner

Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde said on December 5 that doctors and staff at primary health centers have been instructed to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD).
Recently, a woman in Tirthahalli Taluk tested positive for KFD, a tick-borne viral infection. Mr Hegde said the Health Department had directed staff in villages surrounding the area to spread awareness about the disease and take precautionary measures to prevent infection.
“The spread of the disease cannot be controlled by sitting in Shivamogga. Primary health centers must function effectively. Instructions have been given to the staff. Those who develop symptoms such as high fever should immediately consult doctors. Patients will recover quickly if they receive early medical care,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
Vaccine
School Education Minister and Shivamogga district in-charge Minister Madhu Bangarappa, who is in Shivamogga, said the Health Ministry is consulting experts to find a vaccine against the disease.
KFD was first noticed in 1956 in Kyasanur forest area of Sorab taluk. It is spread through ticks, and those who are close to forest areas and visit them for various reasons are vulnerable to infection.
