Portland Dress ‘holds space for everyone’
Hundreds of people came together to knit the stories of Portland natives together.
Portland dress will be announced after six months after contributing to the creation of more than 300 people.
The art organization B-Side was inspired to create the dress after the dress. Red Dress Project In 2024 he visited Portland and donated a “sister” dress to the group.
Since then, the locals met in workshops, in their own homes, community groups, cafes and bars.
Each patch was inspired by a story connected to Portland, and the dress will be announced at the Isle’s Big Weekend event between 11-14 September.

Among the items touching the dress, there is a piece of a mother and daughter who works by other daughters and sisters sitting by Portland Bill.
He had Down syndrome and died, but the family announced that Portland was his favorite place to visit.
Other descriptions include a dandelion embroidery by a woman who wants to reflect the durability after moving from her own country to Portland.
A group of refugees living on Biby Stockholm mavna contributed to the embroidery of a hand circle to represent their connections in Portland.
Local artists led the embroidery workshops between January and July.
ROOK explained: “In recent months, people from all walks of life came together. The most active, embroidery – such a simple and tactile – is that it gives people reflecting, sharing and attachment.
“Whether it’s new or just arrived, everyone who contributed found a common ground with the dress and a common feeling of Portland.”
Portland -based artist Rob Mutter’s poetry Skylark words touched the skirt line of the dress.
B-Side Director Rocca Holly-Banbi said that Portland dress shows “how art can hold a place for everyone”.
“This is not told by stitches, symbols and personal stories, not through official history books, about memory, flexibility, migration and community.”
