Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka at a review meeting on the power situation with officials in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday asserted that power distribution companies are ready to efficiently meet the demand of 19,000 MW this summer and instructed officials and staff to remain alert until Yasangi and summer end.

During the review meeting with officials in the Assembly here, Mr. Bhatti noted that electricity demand and consumption in the State has increased significantly due to the Yasangi crop season and summer impact. He said the power network is fully prepared to efficiently meet demand of up to 19,000 MW.

He noted that the highest energy demand recorded on March 20 last year was 17,162 MW. This year demand reached 17,606 MW on March 2. Then, with the steady increase in demand, it reached 18,228 MW on March 13, breaking a new record with electricity consumption of 341.08 million units.

He stated that despite the sharp increase in demand, power utilities managed the situation efficiently without any interruption in supply or overload problems. He reported that the government has taken measures such as establishing new substations, transmission lines and transformers to avoid any outages even if the demand exceeds 19,000 MW.

Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Naveen Mittal, Telangana Transco CMD Krishna Bhaskar, DISCOM CMDs Musharraf Faruqui, Jitesh V. Patil, Varun Reddy and other officials attended the meeting.
