Ben Shepherd celebrated his 22nd anniversary with wife Annie by sharing a rare photo of the ‘best thing that ever happened to me’.

The This Morning presenter, 51, reminisced about the couple’s relationship by sharing a selfie from their early days of love.

‘So 22 years ago today @mrsannieshephard said ‘oh go ahead then’ and that was it!’ she gushed in her caption.

“It may have taken me 9 years to realize it and propose to him but he’s still the best thing that ever happened to me,” she continued, before joking about her other great love, West Ham legend Mark Noble.

The sweet post was met with a flood of messages from Ben’s showbiz pals, with podcast co-host Joel Dommett commenting: ‘This is the BEST,’ while This Morning co-star Cat Deeley quipped: ‘Oh, go on then’ Gorgeous Miss Sheps.’

Ben and Annie married in Salcombe, Devon, in 2004 after meeting as students at the University of Birmingham.

Just as she admitted in her Instagram post that it would take nine years for Ben to propose, she popped the question in Paris a year before their wedding.

Ben recently opened up about the secret behind his marriage and life with Annie, with whom he shares sons Sam, 21, and Jack, 19.

‘Annie was with me long before I started TV,’ he told the Daily Mail’s Weekend Magazine in January. ‘He’s been through everything with me, the ups and downs.’

‘He is extremely patient. “And I’m very patient with new shoes,” he joked. ‘I actually think we’re great friends when we get together.’

While Ben has spent two decades presenting everything from This Morning to Tipping Point and his latest show The Summit, Annie has quietly stayed away from the spotlight, focusing on her family and her job in interior design.

‘Annie has done a great job of giving me the space to do what I do,’ Ben explained.

‘He was the centerpiece of our life as a family; This amazing influence that creates a home for our children to be who they are and has definitely made me better at being a father.

Ben and Annie are preparing for the next phase of their marriage, becoming empty nesters.

Their eldest son, Sam, is studying maths at university, while his younger brother works as a teacher’s assistant to save money to travel.

‘Everything will be quieter since you’ve been surrounded by boys, their friends and girls for so long. “It is, anyway,” he admitted, but added that he’s enjoying the “challenge” of juggling his new home life with just Annie.

‘We both think this next phase is really exciting… We live very separate lives. ‘I don’t work, he has a job like gardening and interior design.’

‘If I have free time I like to do something physical: play golf, go for a run, go to the gym, watch some football or rugby.

‘He wants to go to an art gallery or see a garden. It’s about finding things that work for both of us; But like I said, it’s really exciting.’
