BRS Seeks Central Forces For Jubilee Hills Bypoll

Hyderabad: BRS on Thursday requested the Election Commission of India to deploy Central security forces in Jubilee Hills constituency to ensure free and fair polling on November 11 for the by-election.

BRS general secretary Soma Bharat Kumar, in a press conference with former BRS MP B. Vinod Kumar on Thursday, said the BRS had already asked the ECI for deployment of Central forces in Jubilee Hills, alleging that the state police was working for the ruling Congress party and that the BRS did not trust the police to ensure a free and fair election.

Vinod Kumar alleged that the ECI was working in a partisan manner and failed to act on complaints filed by the BRS against Congress leaders for various poll rules violations.

He said that the Commission, which had swiftly imposed restrictions and sanctions on BRS leaders in the last Assembly and Parliament elections, had for some reason refused to take action on poll code violations by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other Congress leaders.

“This is unfortunate and we ask the EC why no action has been taken against Revanth Reddy for his comments in his campaign speeches in the Jubilee Hills constituency. Is the Prime Minister warning that development plans in the constituency will be stopped if the Congress is not voted out due to violation of the electoral law? And isn’t it a violation for minister Mohammed Azharuddin to say that he will not visit the constituency if people vote for the BRS candidate? Why is the EC keeping silent on these issues even though we have made proposals? Are there several complaints?” Vinod Kumar asked.
