President Donald Trump Honors Charlie Kirk With Medal Of Freedom, Declares National Day Of Remembrance

At a crowded Rose Garden ceremony, President Donald Trump posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Charlie Kirk, the late and great founder of Turning Point USA.
Trump opened the ceremony by saying, “Today, we are here to honor and remember a fearless warrior for freedom, a beloved leader who galvanized the next generation like I’ve never seen before, and an American patriot of the deepest faith, finest quality, and highest caliber, the late, great Charlie Kirk,” before denouncing Kirk’s killing as both “horrific” and “disgusting.”
The memorial, which was supposed to have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday, took place just a month after Kirk was killed during a speaking event in Utah; This act of violence reignited the debate over violent hostility that often targets conservative voices.
The event, originally planned for the East Room, was eventually moved outdoors to accommodate the large crowds that gathered to honor Kirk. The ceremony will be the first Medal of Freedom presentation of Trump’s second term.
“We will forever enter his name into the list of true American heroes. He is a true American hero, a great human being. He was way beyond his years,” the president said Tuesday.
Kirk’s life was cut short when a sniper opened fire at a Turning USA event at Utah Valley University on September 10 as Kirk spoke to students about faith, freedom and the future of America.
Authorities later arrested a 24-year-old suspect with alleged ties to far-left groups, as previously reported. DXBut the assassination left behind growing concerns about political violence and security risks facing the right across the country.
Despite his assassination, Kirk’s influence continued to grow rapidly around the world.
His movement, which has grown from a feeble initiative in 2012 to one of America’s largest youth-focused conservative organizations, has mobilized millions of young patriots across the country.
Under his leadership, Turning Point USA fought against critical race theory, radical gender and gender ideologies, as well as lax open border policies.
Many senior leaders, including Trump, have credited Kirk’s grassroots network with helping drive a historic turnout in the 2024 election; especially among first-time voters who are tired of or disillusioned with the increasing imposition of “progressive” politics and anti-American ideology.
Those close to Kirk described him as a man of faith whose love for God, his country, and constitutional freedom were not just a topic of conversation but his purpose and way of life.
In a past podcast interview, Kirk was asked: “How would you like to be remembered?”
His answer: “I want to be remembered as courageous for my faith. That would be the most important thing; my faith is the most important thing.”
In a separate social media post, Kirk included a photo of himself holding his baby. wrote: “God, family, country. In that order.”
In a statement following his death, the Turning Point Founder’s widow, Erika Kirk, took over and vowed to pursue his role with renewed determination. A few days later, a sold-out NFL stadium gathered at a September memorial in Arizona, waving flags and chanting for justice while vowing to expand campus outreach and protect free speech by keeping Charlie’s fight alive.
Trump, who continued to credit Kirk for inspiring patriots in America and those fighting for freedom around the world, praised him as “a visionary and one of the greatest figures of his generation.” “He was truly a magnificent figure.”
“He was very wise beyond his years,” Trump added.
Later in the day, President Trump invited Erika Kirk to the Oval Office, where she signed a proclamation designating October 14, Kirk’s birthday, as National Charlie Kirk Memorial Day.
