President Donald Trump announced Thursday that Canada is no longer accepted into the newly formed Peace Corps.
In a statement published on Truth Social, Trump rescinded Canada’s invitation, informing Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that his country could no longer participate in “the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled.”
“Dear Prime Minister Carney: Please allow this letter to represent that the Peace Corps has withdrawn its invitation to you to join the most prestigious Council of Leaders ever assembled by Canada,” Trump wrote. he wrote.
Trump inaugurated the board Thursday during a speech and signing ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he was joined onstage by leaders from Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Central and Southeast Asia.

The president’s response came after he said on Wednesday that the United States should control Greenland and build a large-scale “Golden Dome” missile defense system. He said it would also protect Canada, which he argued was dependent on the security of the United States.
During the forum in Davos, Trump said, “We are building a Golden Dome that will inherently defend Canada. Meanwhile, Canada gets a lot of freebies from us. They should be grateful, too.”
“But they’re not. I watched your prime minister yesterday. He wasn’t that grateful. They should be grateful to us, to Canada. Canada is alive because of the United States. Remember that next time you make a statement, Mark,” he said, referring to comments Carney made earlier this week.

Although Carney did not mention Trump by name, he warned in his speech that the rules-based international order was collapsing as “major powers” increasingly use their economic and security influence to pressure their allies.
The Prime Minister argued that “middle powers” such as Canada should heed the “wake-up call” that compliance does not guarantee security, and instead promoted a strategy focused on diversification, collective action and respect for sovereignty.
Trump said he will chair the new peace board, which will include senior political, diplomatic and business figures such as his son-in-law Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and billionaire Marc Rowan.
