President Donald Trump on Friday floated the idea of putting Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on the Supreme Court, joking that he was the only candidate who would get “100% of the Democrats, 100% of the Republicans” because lawmakers would want to “remove” him from Congress.
Trump made the comments after Cruz and other lawmakers traveled with the president to make remarks on energy in Corpus Christi, Texas.
“We have a senator who is truly a great man,” Trump said during an outdoor event at the Port of Corpus Christi. “I’m thinking of putting him on the Supreme Court. … It’s very difficult to make these nominations happen, and he’s the only person I know who’s going to get 100% of the Democratic vote, 100% of the Republican vote. They want to get him out of there.”
“He’s a pain in the ass, but he’s very good and very talented,” the president continued. “If we had a problem, I’d choose Ted. He would solve it. … He’s a great guy and he’s also a very talented guy — smart.”

“There’s a lot going on right now. We have a big decision to make. It’s not easy,” Trump said. “We have a country that has been cutting off people’s legs and arms for 47 years… killing people, killing lots of people. It’s not just the Americans. They want to make a deal, but we need to make a meaningful deal, too. On the way here, I talked to Ted Cruz, John and all of them.”
“As you know, we hit them very hard with those beautiful B-2 bombers; we recently disabled their nuclear capabilities,” he continued. “I would prefer to do this peacefully, but they are very difficult people. I want to tell you that they are very dangerous, very difficult people.”
