Priest is ‘bottled by man who walked into church before mass’

A priest, ‘before the mass of a man entering the church by bottling’ then taken to hospital.
Father John Murray was shot at the St Patrick Church in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland.
In a statement, the Northern Irish Police Service, the priest’s detectives ‘ruthless attack’ after being defined as a ‘serious situation’ in the hospital, he said.
It was believed that Fr Murray was preparing for one of his last masses before he retired when the attack took place at 10.10 in the sanctity of the church. Belfast Live.
A PSN spokesman said: ‘On Sunday, August110 at 10.10, a man entered the church on the St Patrick’s Boulevard and hit a nun with a bottle before leaving.
‘The victim was taken to hospital for the treatment of head trauma in a serious condition.’
Detective Chief Inspector McBurney said: ‘This was a completely shocking and brutal attack and left the priest with a serious head trauma.
‘Our questions continue this event and appeal to everyone who witnessed the attack or apply to the police number 101 and quote 543 from the reference of 10/08/25.’

Fr Murray was believed to have been preparing for his last masses before the attack took place at the sacrifice of the church.
The community of St Macnissi in Larne said that Fr Murray was taken to the surgical royal Victoria Hospital.

Sinn Fein Deputy Chris Hazzard on a Facebook post about the attack of FT Murray ‘shock and upset’ he said.
‘My thoughts and prayers with him and I wish him a complete and quick recovery’ he wrote.
‘This coward attack is not completely unacceptable and I condemn it for sure. I urge everyone who has knowledge to apply to the police. ‘
Cathy Mason, a member of the Northern Irish Assembly, said that he was terrified.
Facebook page, ‘Downpatrick, St Patrick Church Father Murray attack, this morning deeply shocking,’ ‘he wrote.
‘No one should face violence, at least most of all, in a place of worship. This was an embarrassing action and it should be clearly condemned.
‘My thoughts with Father Murray and hopefully make a quick and complete improvement.’
Downpatrick thanked people for their prayers and good wishes.
