Prince Andrew clings onto major royal perk after losing all his titles | Royal | News

Prince Andrew will retain a huge royal advantage despite losing all his other titles. The former Duke of York has stepped back from royal life amid ongoing anger over his connection to Jeffrey Epstein. He announced last night that he would no longer use royal titles and honors following talks with King Charles and Prince William.

This includes his title as Duke of York, which he has held since marrying Sarah Ferguson in 1986, and being a member of the Order of the Garter, the highest order of chivalry. Palace sources said she will no longer be invited to Christmas at Sandringham and is likely to be banned from major royal events. Andrew will also remain a prince and his daughters will remain princesses. These are birthright titles and cannot be revoked. But he will be allowed to stay at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, thanks to a “cast iron” lease that runs until 2078.

The 30-room house is located a few kilometers from Windsor Castle and 800 meters from the Welsh family’s new home, Forest Lodge.

Andrew’s loss of titles comes after The Sun revealed he lied about his last contact with Epstein during a 2019 Newsnight interview.

The prince said he broke off contact with Epstein in November 2010, several months after Epstein completed an 18-month sentence for procuring a girl under 18 for prostitution.

In fact, Andrew had emailed him in February 2011 saying: “Don’t worry about me! Looks like we’re in this together and we’ll just have to get through it. Otherwise, stay in close contact and we’ll play some more soon!!!!”

The family of Virginia Guiffre, who claims she was kidnapped to have sex with Andrew three times, said stripping the prince of his titles was a “victory”.

They added: “This decisive action is a strong step forward in our fight to bring Epstein and Maxwell’s child sex trafficking network to justice. We also believe it is appropriate for King Charles to remove the title of Prince.”

“This moment serves as a victory for Virginia, who constantly claims that she knows what happened, that I know what happened…only one of us is telling the truth, and I know that it is me.”
