Naxal Den Karregutta Hills Set To Host Chhattisgarh’s 2nd Jungle Warfare College

Raipur: Until recently, Karregutta Hills, a Maoist along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, will host the Second Anti-Terrorism and Jungle Warfare College. A senior civil servant told this newspaper on Sunday, the Union Ministry of Interior approved the principle to establish an institution in the rugged plateaus, which witnessed one of the most comprehensive counter -rebellion operations in the summer months.

The first counter -terrorism and Jungle Warfare College (CTJWC) in Chhattısgarh were founded in Kanker in Bastar in December 2004 and so far provided special training to more than 30,000 security personnel.

“The construction of the facility will be carried out by the central government, the way of approach and other basic facilities will be provided by the state government.” He said.

In the 21-day longest anti-Maoist operation on Karregutta Hills, 31 Maoist, including senior leaders, were killed, 214 shelters were destroyed and Maoists’ arms construction units were dismantled. “We need a few counter -rebellion operations to control the entire 200 km2 area from Maoists,” he said to this newspaper.

“Karregutta hills have a tremendous tactical importance in the context of anti-Maoist operations. For decades, this solid rugged terrain was exploited by the Dandakarana Special Zonal Committee and the Tahangana committee of the Maoists, as a shelter, movement corridor and logistics center,” he said.

The operation, which was initiated in April-May, showed that permanent security dominance and administrative access in Karregutta region is not only applicable, but also to deny one of the last sacred areas of extremist supporters.

“Accepting this, the State Government and the Union of the United States are investigating various options, including those who will establish Jungle Warfare College in Karregutta Hills to reinforce the latest gains,” he added.
