According to a report by IANS based on The Wall Street Journal, Trump is considering a “limited military strike” on Iran to push Tehran towards the nuclear deal.
The newspaper said Trump was considering “an initial limited military strike to force Iran to meet the demands of the nuclear deal.”
It is stated that the move will mean putting pressure on Iran without triggering a full-scale war.
People familiar with the matter told the Journal that the opening strike, if approved, “will target several military or government facilities.”
Meanwhile, if Tehran refuses to comply with Trump’s demand to end nuclear enrichment, the United States could expand the campaign to hit more regime facilities.
Trump “could step up his attacks, starting small, then order bigger strikes until the Iranian regime halts its nuclear efforts or falls apart,” one person was quoted by the Journal as saying.
“We will make a deal or reach a deal one way or another,” Trump said on Thursday.
Is Khamenei on the radar?
Axios reported that the US President was presented with “military options” that included directly targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader.
A senior U.S. official told Axios that the U.S. government may consider a proposal that would allow Iran to continue nuclear enrichment if it leaves no “possible path” to making a nuclear bomb.
