Prince William ‘saw right through’ Meghan Markle for one reason | Royal | News

Allegedly, Prince William feared that Meghan Markle had zero plans to stay at the Firm in the long term. While preparing for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May 2018, it was claimed that the Prince of Wales’s feelings towards Meghan began to deteriorate.
Royal biographer Phil Dampier said: “She saw it as a stepping stone to marrying Harry and finding new fame and fortune. I think that’s what Prince William was initially worried about. And so they fell out. And now, we’re where we are. But having it confirmed by someone so close to the Queen is really dynamic.”
Mr Dampier told Lady Elizabeth Anson, the late Queen’s cousin and greatest confidant, that even the late Monarch was concerned about Meghan’s intentions.
As Lady Elizabeth told royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, as rumored Daily Mail: “I don’t trust Meghan an inch. Meghan can be nothing but trouble.” He also added how he was suspicious of the TV actor. He said: “We hope so, but we don’t really think he’s in love. We think he planned the whole thing.”
William was said to have warned his brother about the pace of his relationship with Meghan before the wedding because he was concerned about how quickly the couple was moving on.
In January 2023, Harry claimed William gave him a warning to slow things down in his memoir Spare, writing: “He told me he was too fast. Too soon. He was actually quite discouraging about me dating Meg.”
He writes: “As we sat together in his garden one day, he predicted the many difficulties I would encounter if I became involved with an ‘American actress,’ a phrase he always managed to sound like a ‘convicted criminal.'”
Despite his family’s concerns, Prince Harry proposed to Meghan in November 2018, just over a year after they first met and started dating.
“We both wanted to start a family right away. We were working crazy hours, our jobs were demanding, the timing wasn’t ideal but it was bad. This had always been our main priority,” Prince wrote in Spare.
Harry and Meghan married at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018, but later stepped down as senior royals in 2020, eventually settling in Montecito, California, where they live with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
