Prince William shared a photo of himself with his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, on Mother’s Day today. A never-before-seen photograph from the Royal Family’s private collection shows Diana with her eldest son in a flower field at Highgrove in 1984.

The photo, published on Kensington Palace’s official social media pages on Sunday morning, shows two-year-old William surrounded by bright flowers. She wears a white striped top as she gazes at the flowers, while Diana smiles at the camera in a bright pink sweater.

In a message to accompany the photo, she said: “Remembering my mother today and every day. Thinking of everyone who remembers a loved one today. Happy Mother’s Day. W”

This year would have been Diana’s 65th birthday.

In recent years, William and Catherine have often celebrated Mother’s Day by posting personal photos of the princess with her three children.

But last year, the special day was marked with a short video celebrating the power of Mother Nature. This reflected how important nature was during the princess’ cancer treatment and recovery.

The decision not to publish any photos of Catherine and the children follows outrage over the 2025 Mother’s Day image, which was taken by photo agencies over concerns the image had been digitally manipulated. The princess issued an apology the next day, admitting that she had edited the photo.

Earlier Sunday, Buckingham Palace posted three photos with the caption: “Wishing Mothers everywhere and a peaceful Mother’s Sunday for those who may miss their Mothers today.”

The first black-and-white image shows the young Queen Elizabeth arriving at Westminster Abbey, flanked by her mother, Queen Elizabeth. Both women hold their wide-brimmed hats tightly so they don’t blow away in the wind.

In the second family photo, Queen Elizabeth sits on a bench in the garden with her two eldest children, Charles and Anne, while the Queen’s corgi, Sue, can be seen in the background. This sweet image was taken in Balmoral, Scotland.
