Princess Beatrice smiles at surprise launch after Andrew humiliation | Royal | News

Princess Beatrice made a surprise trip today as she continues to raise awareness about premature birth. Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s daughter launched Borne’s World Prematurity Day campaign tonight as part of her role as royal patron of the charity.

The princess, who gave birth to her second daughter Athena prematurely this year, visited the Borne research laboratories at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital yesterday to find out more about the charity’s work on premature births. Today the princess attended a special event in Battersea Power Station Control Room B with Borne Founder Professor Mark Johnson.

The event was attended by supporters, researchers and families who want to help end premature birth.

The princess will also appear on an episode of the charity’s podcast next week alongside ambassador Laura Tobin and Borne Founder Professor Mark Johnson.

Princess Beatrice, who this year became patron of the charity dedicated to funding national and global research into the causes of premature birth, said: “The work Borne has undertaken is something incredibly near and personal to me following the birth of my daughter.

“60,000 babies are born too early every year in the UK and there is little information or research on why this is.

“So I’m really looking forward to supporting Borne and his groundbreaking research programme, which I hope will help thousands of parents and children in the future.”
