Princess Kate appeared to send a message to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with her outfit, according to an expert. The Princess of Wales sported the same look twice while attending engagements recently.
Kate first visited two factories in Kent and Suffolk in September, and a few weeks later in October she set off for RAF Coningsby Air Base in the same suit. The outfit in question was Bella Freud’s Prince of Wales checkered gray suit, which Bella first paired with a black top underneath, and for her second engagement, she opted for a gray Alexander McQueen sheer knit top. A fashion expert has claimed Kate’s sartorial choice, which initially came around the same time as the Duke of Sussex’s visit to the UK, carried a “secret message” for her and her husband.
Fashion expert Laura Craig told the Daily Mail: “As nothing in Kate’s wardrobe is worn by accident, it’s hard not to question her design and timing in choosing to wear a cryptic and patriotic fabric like the Prince of Wales tartan.”
“As clever as it is, it is often avoided by those in public office because photographs of checks do not always display well and can appear blurry. Frankly, this was less worrying than the message it conveyed.”
“The message is that here stands the true stronghold of the British Royal Family, with all their strong devotion to king and country.
“Other fraudsters can go back to their boxes – or catch a plane to Montecito.”
Meanwhile, while royal fans were pleased to see the princess wearing a suit again, some didn’t like her decision.
One user wrote on Instagram: “She only wore this suit a few weeks ago. Please repeat, but not in such rapid succession when there are other suits and dresses you could wear. Also, a gray suit with a gray sweater really doesn’t work.”
Another had a similar opinion: “The outfit itself is not nice enough to be repeated twice a month.”
Others weren’t big fans of the grey-on-gray style, with one user saying: “Not too sure about the outfit. The gray + gray combination looks a bit boring, a white shirt would be nice.”
