Prof. R. Thandavan passes away at 75

R. Thandavan, former Vice-Chancellor of Madras University, passed away this morning after a long illness. He was 75 years old.

Thandavan joined the University of Madras (UoM) in 1987 as a Reader and the first Department Head of the Anna Center for Public Affairs.

Before this, he had taught history at Pachchaiyappa College for nearly a decade. After joining UoM, he was elected as a Union member for three terms and retired in 2010. He was appointed as the Vice Rector of the University between 2013 and 2016. He is survived by his wife and two sons. The funeral will be held on Sunday at 10:00.
