Prue Leith, 85, reveals the health concern that casued her to step down from Bake Off

When Prue Leith announced she was leaving Bake Off, she revealed she wanted to spend more time away from work.

But now the 85-year-old has revealed another reason: he was increasingly worried about his ‘needles becoming less stable’.

Prue announced her retirement from the TV cooking show in January and previously stated that she wanted to enjoy more relaxing holiday time, especially during the summer months in Europe.

But she shared her fears about her increasing fragility, admitting: ‘I think what I’m worried about is that I’m not quite as steady on my pins anymore – it’s not as good as I used to be.’

He revealed that while filming for the series with Paul Hollywood, 60, and Noel Fielding, 52, he first realized he was having trouble doing things he had previously taken for granted.

He added: ‘We weren’t judging the cake – they wanted us to dance on this pitch. And it was a very rough and rugged area, which of course Noel could jump over very well, and Paul could jump over very well.

‘But suddenly I realized, ‘I’m going to go from A to T, you know, it’s going to be incredibly humiliating.’ And I said, ‘I don’t want to do this,’ and they understood; they were good.

Prue, now 85, shared another concern: increasing anxiety about being ‘less steady on her feet’

‘And for the first time I had to say, ‘I can’t do this.’ Little by little these things became more and more numerous.’

Prue added on The Shift podcast: ‘Since I joined Bake Off Paul has always been making fun of me because I’m so much bigger than him.’

There is a 25 year age difference between the couple. “Come on, darling, daisy,” he’d say, “time for a nap,” or “time for tea,” or something like that. It’s a joke… but lately I’ve been thinking, ‘You’re actually right, man.’

‘If I were on Bake Off, I’d want a ramp to get into my Winnebago. ‘It would have been perfectly okay for Paul to have been sarcastic and he would probably have stopped doing it.’
