Caste census: In a first, panel to use domestic electricity connection to draw up list of households in Karnataka

For the first time in the country, which can probably become a model for other surveys, the Karnataka State Commission for back courses will prepare a list of households in the state using the local electricity connection.
The decision of the Commission comes in the midst of a turmoil on the sanctity of the voter list prepared by the Indian Election Commission.
The list of households is an important exercise before receiving the second socio-educational survey of the state’s seven Crore population in September (popularly called the ASTE census).
According to one estimation, there are more than two Crore power connections, and meter readers will ensure that the commission is separated from the commercial/households of the commercial/households and the separation of dual -counter indigenous installations.
The Justice Hn Nagamohan DAS Commission used the 2011 census data and created an interface with the voter list during the household survey of the planned caste.
‘Hue and Cry’
“We will not use the list of voters because there are too many tons and we cry about it. Hindu.
He said that the provisions were made in order not to miss the households without electrical connections. “We will check various other secondary data such as ration cards and Aadhaar to cover the whole population.”
The second survey will be held between 22 September and 7 October. The first survey was conducted in 2015 by the H. Kanthaj commission presented by the K. Jayaprakash Hegde Commission in 2024. However, the report has preferred a new survey since the age of 10.
Mr. Naik said the estimated number of households with electrical connection in Karnataka is about 1.7 crore. “Meter readers will label each of each household during the meter reading exercise. Each reader will cover an average of 3,000 meters during a monthly cycle that lasts more than a week,” he said.
Through an application
An application developed by the E-Manager Department will be downloaded to the meter reader’s device using the geographical label of the location, and a unique number is created when a label will be glued to define the house as a geographical label.
Naik said, “GEO labeling is being done for the first time. Example research has been done to test the system,” Naik said.
