Nepal appoints its first female PM after historic week of deadly protests | Nepal

Nepal swore at the first woman’s prime minister after a historical week, when the widespread youth protests forced the resignation of the predecessor and the resolution of the parliament.
Nepal’s former chief justice Sushila Carki took the oath of duty late on Friday after a few days of negotiation. Carki will lead a temporary government until new elections were held in March next year.
Carki, a widespread figure, known for his harsh stance against corruption, was nominated by a group who said that they represented the self -defined gene protesters who had dropped the government at the beginning of this week.
Tens of thousands of protesters, mostly under the age of 30, went to the streets to express their opposition to a prohibition that came into forcelessly on social media sites and to oppose the problems of Nepal’s political elite.
Police responded with fatal force, including the documented use of live ammunition. Twenty -one civilian participating in the demonstrations became the most bloody protest day in Nepal history.
Until Tuesday, anger in the government reached the fire field and the country’s parliamentary buildings, as well as the Prime Minister’s Houses – KP Sharma Oli – President and other ministers were set on fire, and the capital Kathmandu looked like a burned war zone. Oli, who was ventilated by the army, announced his resignation on Tuesday afternoon.
The resignation of a 73 -year -old child, who served as the Prime Minister as a prime minister and was seen as authoritarian, degenerated and unclear by many by many, was widely celebrated by the Gene Z protesters on the streets. However, the rate of protests to overthrow the government also offered problems. It was not part of a consistent, organized group, and there was no group of leaders or representatives.
After inviting the President and the Chief of Army Gen Z protesters to be a part of the discussions about who should establish the next government, a team of representatives was elected. On Wednesday, they proposed Karki as an option to lead a temporary government and insisted that the current parliament had to be solved.
In 2016, Carki was appointed as the first female chief justice of Nepal, and as a result, it was known that he made various high -profile decisions against ministers and senior police in corruption cases entering the cross -channels of the major political parties. After his retirement, he founded himself as an important figure in civil society by talking about corruption and political implementation in Nepal.
In spite of some chapters, on Wednesday, the Gene Z protesters walked around the Carki, which was explained against the deadly power used against the protesters, and described it as “massacre .. In addition, among the young generations, the popular young mayor of the popular young mayor Katamandu was supported by the younger generations.
However, after Nepal’s leaders of the most established political parties were initially refused to accept the dissolution of the parliament, the country seemed to be moving towards a dead end. However, on Friday night, after warning that the army chief Ashok Raj Sigdel will have to declare an emergency if the army was not found, the party leaders were accepted by the leaders to dissolve the parliament and to be appointed as prime minister until new elections were held in six months.
After the appointment of Carki on Friday, the Presidential Office made a statement confirming that they were “corrected for the elections on Thursday, March 5, 2026”.
Many of the Gene Z movement forces the Carki to immediately open allegations of corruption to the former Prime Minister Oli and his ministers and to organize an investigation into the protest deaths.
25 -year -old Dheeraj Joshi, who participated in the meeting with the Army and the President, said that he believed that the appointment of the Carki’s appointment that the country was “through the destruction stage to a construction stage”.
“This does not mean that everything will be good after starting.” “Initially, there will be a process to determine who weakened the country the most, and then it will determine the priorities accordingly. Over time, deep -rooted corruption will be removed from the root of corruption. When this process begins, the floor will open for better future.”
