Putin condemns US-Israel killing of Iran’s Khamenei in official letter

Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei on Sunday, saying the death, which occurred during attacks by Israel and the United States, was a “cynical violation” of norms.
In his letter to Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, Putin made the statement that the Kremlin made public after Khamenei’s death. Saturday’s bold daylight attacks eliminated Khamenei as well as several other senior Iranian leaders, including the Commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
“Please accept my deep condolences in connection with the murder of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, and members of his family, in cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law,” Putin said.
Putin continued: “In our country, Ayatollah Khamenei will be remembered as an outstanding statesman who made great personal contributions to the development of friendly Russia-Iran relations and bringing these relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.”

“I ask you to convey my sincere condolences and support to the family and friends of the Supreme Leader, the government and the entire Iranian people,” he added.
Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations Amir-Saeid Iravani condemned the joint US-Israeli attacks that rained down on his country on Saturday during the UN Security Council meeting.
Iravani accused the US of undermining its claims to maintain international stability while attacking a sovereign country for its “domestic” activities.
