QCAT finds inappropriate relationships with students

The decision to ban two teachers, including a woman whose behavior was criticized as “disgusting”, from Queensland schools for having sex with students was published back to back on Friday.

Two cases, in which both teachers were found to have engaged in inappropriate sexual relationships with current or former students, were resolved a week apart.

To protect the privacy of her victims, the female teacher, known only as KLR in Queensland Civil and Administrative Court documents, was found to have had inappropriate relationships with four young students aged between 13 and 18.

“His behavior was disgusting,” the court said.

“RS”, the eldest of these students, spent the night at KLR’s house. During a visit to the home of a colleague under KLR’s care, CCTV footage was deleted without the homeowner’s permission.

“Between August 2021 and August 2022, KLR had an inappropriate, intimate and/or romantic relationship with RS and was described by RS as his girlfriend,” QCAT said.

“KLR gave RS a birthday card for her 18th birthday and received money and gifts from her. They communicated in an intimate and personal manner via Snapchat, lived together, and engaged in intimate and/or sexual communications and behavior.”

Between December 2021 and May 2022, RS transferred a total of $7,450 to KLR’s bank account.

QCAT found that “KLR engaged in repeated, deliberate inappropriate behavior towards four young children at two separate educational institutions over a period of approximately four years, including following his suspension from the teaching profession.”
