Queen Camilla defended after trolls make ‘truly abhorrent’ comments – ‘sad’ | Royal | News

The royal photographer has hit back at internet trolls who made derogatory comments about Queen Camilla during her state visit to the Vatican with King Charles. The King and Queen spent two days in the Italian city-state; attended various meetings; these included meeting Pope Leo XIV for the first time and Charles making history by becoming the first English monarch to pray with the Pope since the Reformation.
In the presence of the Pope, the Queen was dressed in black, in accordance with papal protocol, which requires non-Catholic women to wear a black robe and a black veil or shawl over their heads. Only Catholic royal women have “le privilège du blanc” (white privilege) in the presence of the Pope.
Queen Elizabeth visited Pope John Paul II in 1980 and 2000. She wore a similar outfit with a headscarf when she appeared before John Paul.
Camilla stuck to protocol and wore a black silk dress by Fiona Clare, a black mantilla by Phillip Treacy, and a cross-shaped “raspberry stem” brooch.
The brooch is significant as it belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth and is estimated to be worth £40,000.
But it emerged some people online were mocking the Queen and her mantilla, calling the title a “misstep” and making other cruel remarks about her appearance.
But royal photographer Joshua Brandwood has hit back at those making “disgusting comments” about the Queen, saying she is “nothing but gracious and kind”.
X wrote on his account: “I was saddened to see some truly disgusting comments about Her Majesty in my last post.
“Every time I had the privilege of photographing him, he was nothing but kind and gentle.
“I really can’t say a bad word about him.”
