Cuomo condemned over racist AI ad depicting ‘criminals for Zohran Mamdani’ | Andrew Cuomo

New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo was widely labeled a racist after posting and then deleting an AI-generated ad depicting “Zohran Mamdani’s criminals” on his official X account.
20 minutes before the second mayoral debate, Cuomo’s official account @andrewcuomo tweeted the video. It was reshared by many people before being deleted.
The Cuomo and Mamdani campaigns did not immediately respond to the Guardian’s request for comment.
The video, recorded and reshared by various people, lasts just over two minutes and opens with an AI version of Mamdani; first he runs through the streets of New York and then he eats rice with his hands.
In the film, a Black man stealing a keffiyeh, a man abusing a woman, a sex trafficker, a drug dealer and others all show their support for Mamdani.
Reaction to the video reloaded Journalist Prem Thakker’s article was swift and negative.
Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, a grassroots organization that advocates for gun violence prevention. in the name “It’s so disgusting and full of racist stereotypes, including a black man dressed as a pimp selling a car full of white women. Cuomo needs to be consigned to the ash heap of history.”

This video follows a trend in the Cuomo campaign, which released a handful of AI-generated videos through November 4. In a video from early October, Cuomo was seen performing various tasks in New York City, including driving a subway car, trading on the New York Stock Exchange, and cleaning the windows of high-rise buildings.
In reply to Mamdani sent On Instagram: “In a city full of A-list artists and production crews on the hunt for their next gig, Andrew Cuomo made a TV ad like he wrote housing policy: With AI. Also, maybe a fake Cuomo is better than the real one?”
Just this week, Cuomo shared an AI-generated video featuring Bill de Blasio and Mamdani again. That video sought to paint Mamdani as a “mini” De Blasio, highlighting a moment from the first debate in which Cuomo likened the former mayor to the mayoral hopeful.
